About Our Small Granny Flats
Our small granny flats (your ideal backyard granny flat) are built using the ancient Finnish method of log cabin construction, based on a system of interlocking walls. For strength, we use 34mm up to 58mm T&G boards are used for the walls and 19mm x 95mm T&G ceiling boards, with no internal lining required. Typically, roof insulation ranges from R 1.5 to R3, and the roof beams are 195mm x 60mm.
All roofs and gutters are Colorbond, available in a wide range of colours. Cabins come standard with hardwood double French doors and two double windows, with additional options available. The floor is Termie treated particle board flooring, providing a solid base for any finish, including carpet, cork, tile or floating flooring. The cabins are made from Nordic timber, which maintains high indoor air quality and is suitable for those with allergies. All timber is sourced from FSC Certified Forests. Externally we use a pre-primed 178mm x 19mm chamferboard.
Design Features and Flexibility
Our affordable granny flat designs offer adaptability to various terrain types, creating appealing and inviting spaces with natural timber. All products can be built to different levels of certification depending on your needs.
A popular option, the 5×5 Moreton cabin, can be built either as a Class 10 Domestic Shed or a Class 1 Habitable Building, allowing flexibility in how your granny flat is used.
Certification Upgrades and Pricing
Upgrading to a Class 1 Habitable cabin involves studding or framing internally, adding insulation, recladding the walls and including the electrical package, which requires a Smoke Alarm. All pricing is based on locations within 100 km of the Brisbane GPO, excluding the Bay Islands.

No, if you’re wanting to use your cabin as a home office, extra bedroom, pool house etc. it will need to be certified. It won’t be exempt.

- Can Your Custom Granny Flats Be Lived In?
If you choose our Class 1 option they are all habitable. Class 10 options are domestic sheds and should only be used for that purpose.
